Products and Classification — Map of Content
This MOC defines and organizes the energy products covered by IRES through the Standard International Energy Product Classification (SIEC). It connects the classification’s scope, hierarchy, and coding rules with individual product definitions, primary/secondary and renewable/non-renewable status, and correspondences with other classifications (IRES Ch. III, Annex A).

Products
- Coal - defines SIEC section 0, distinguishes hard coal from brown coal, and organizes derived coal products such as cokes, briquettes, coal tar, manufactured gases, and recovered gases
- Peat and Peat Products - defines SIEC section 1, distinguishes sod and milled peat, and classifies peat products such as peat briquettes
- Oil Shale/Oil Sands - defines SIEC section 2 as raw sedimentary rock and distinguishes it from extracted oils, which SIEC classifies under other hydrocarbons
- Natural Gas - defines SIEC section 3 by composition and origin, includes liquefied natural gas, and distinguishes natural gas from landfill gas
- Oil - organizes SIEC section 4 from crude oil and natural gas liquids through refinery feedstocks, additives, other hydrocarbons, and the complete family of derived oil products
- Biofuels - organizes SIEC section 5 into solid biofuels, liquid biofuels, and biogases, and defines the products and production pathways within each division
- Waste - defines SIEC section 6 as waste combusted with heat recovery and distinguishes industrial from municipal waste, including their renewable and non-renewable treatment
- Electricity - defines electricity as SIEC section 7 and explains why SIEC classifies it without distinguishing generation processes
- Heat - defines third-party heat sales as SIEC section 8, excludes heat consumed on site from product scope, and explains why SIEC does not distinguish production processes
- Nuclear Fuels and Other Fuels n.e.c. - organizes SIEC section 9 into uranium and plutonium, other nuclear fuels, and other fuels n.e.c., distinguishes the IAEA-authored nuclear definitions, and explains why nuclear fuels are excluded from energy balances
