United Nations energy-statistics methodology

IRES — Energy Statistics Wiki

An OKF-structured, LLM-built and LLM-maintained knowledge base on the international methodology for official energy statistics, following the Open Knowledge Format: each topic is a folder under wiki/ whose index.md is its Map of Content.

Start at the Root MOC and follow topic links from there. See About for scope, method, and confidence conventions.

Disclaimer

This wiki follows the LLM wiki pattern described by Andrej Karpathy (llm-wiki gist, April 2026): an LLM builds and maintains a persistent, interlinked markdown knowledge base from primary sources, instead of re-deriving answers from raw documents on every query.

Treat these pages the way careful readers treat Wikipedia: not as a citable authority, but as a well-curated starting point that routes you to good sources. Even Wikipedia’s own “Academic use” page advises against citing it, and instead recommends using its references as a springboard to citable sources — the norm was endorsed by Wikipedia itself. Every page here is a summary, and any summary can be wrong. What the design guarantees is not infallibility but traceability: every claim carries a citation, and the text behind it can be followed down the provenance chain

wiki page → cleaned source (source/) → raw extraction (raw/_pdftotext/) → original PDF (raw/_pdf/ires-2018.pdf, or the official UN copy).

If a claim on any page looks questionable, readers — human or LLM — are encouraged to trace it back down that chain, as far as the need for clarity requires. See About for method and confidence conventions.

Start with the root Map of Content, then follow the cited topic pages.
